Samples were run on an isocratic HPLC column and sugars detected using pulsed amphometric detection. The peaks relating to lactulose (L) and rhamnose (R) are well resolved, whereas the mannitol (M) peak is lost in the non-specific early peak. Lower panel: the equivalent result from the same subject who had a repeat test after 5 days of indomethacin (50 mg, tds). In this second test, there is a marked increase in the lactulose peak.
